World War II Aircraft 'Dakota' Re-joins IAF.

A restored Dakota aircraft has joined the Indian Air Force. The Dakota DC-3 VP 905 was formally inducted at a grand ceremony held at Hindan air force station. The aircraft was accepted by Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal B S Dhanoa from the Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar in February this year. The aircraft was flown back to India from UK by a joint crew of IAF and Reflight Airworks. During its journey, the aircraft flew a total of 9750 km and made en-route halts in France, Italy, Greece, Jordan, Bahrain and Oman. An official release said, this historic flight across seven countries, was a commemoration of the service provided by this venerable aircraft to the nation. The Dakota popularly known as the Gooney Bird was the first major transport aircraft inducted in the fledgeling Indian Air Force. It was at the forefront of operations from 1947 to 1971.

Late Vinod Khanna was conferred Indian cinema's highest honour Dadasaheb Phalke award posthumously for his contribution to Indian cinema. Late Sridevi was given Best Actress award posthumously for her role in Hindi movie - Mom. Riddhi Sen was given award for Best Actor for his role in Bengali film - Nagarkirtan. Assamese Film Village Rockstars was awarded for the Best Feature Film. Jayaraj received the Best Director award for the Malayalam movie Bhayanakam. Baahubali-2 received the award for Best Popular Film for Providing Wholesome Entertainment. New Chief coach for Indian men's Hockey team

Hockey India names Harendra Singh as Indian Hockey men's coach [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="400"] Harendra Singh as Indian Hockey men's coach[/caption] Hockey India today named Women's hockey coach Harendra Singh as chief coach of the Indian men's team. Incumbent men's in-charge Sjoerd Marijne was re-appointed as Indian women's hockey coach. Men's team under the tutelage of Marijne had returned without a medal in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast, Australia, for the first time since the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

International Labour Day observed today

International Labour Day observed today Today is International Labour Day, also known as International Worker's Day or May Day. It is observed on this day every year to promote and encourage the international labour associations. The day marks the victory of workers' movement for eight hours of work. It also aims to pay tribute to workers sacrifices in achieving economic and social rights all over the world.
