Virat Kohli emerged as International Cricketer of Year at CEAT Cricket Ratings 2018

India skipper Virat Kohli has emerged as the International Cricketer of the Year at the CEAT Cricket Ratings awards, which were presented in Mumbai last night. The 29-year-old cricketer had a memorable last season with the bat. Batsman Rohit Sharma collected the award on behalf of Kohli. Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan was presented the International Batsman of the Year Award, while New Zealand pace sensation Trent Boult won International Bowler of the Year Award. Afghanistan leg spinner Rashid Khan, who impressed everyone with his skills in the recently concluded IPL grabbing 21 wickets, was presented with the T20 Bowler of the Year Award. Woman cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur, who single-handedly took the team to the final of the ICC Women's World Cup with her breathtaking knock of 171 not out against Australia in the semi-final, won the Outstanding Innings of the Year Award. Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed on former India wicket-keeper Farokh Engineer.

Chennai Super Kings lift their 3rd IPL title

Chennai Super Kings lifted their third Indian Premier League title after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in Mumbai lastnight. Chasing 179 for victory, Chennai reached the target with 8 wickets in hand. Shane Watson's whirlwind century helped Chennai to defeat Hyderabad with 9 balls to spare. Man of the Match Watson hit 11 fours and eight sixes during his unbeaten knock of 117 off 57 balls. Earlier, Chennai Super Kings skipper M S Dhoni won the toss and decided to field first. Sent in to bat, Sunrisers Hyderabad made 178 for 6 in the stipulated 20 overs.

PM Modi dedicates to nation 1st smart & green highway

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today dedicated to the nation its first smart and green highway, the Eastern Peripheral Expressway at Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh. The 135-kilometre six-lane access-controlled expressway is eco-friendly and has world-class safety features. It envisages signal-free connectivity between Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gautam Budh Nagar and Palwal. The foundation stone of the project was laid by Mr Modi in November, 2015. The expressway has been completed in a record time of about 500 days against the scheduled target of 910 days. The expressway, built at a cost of 11,000 crore rupees, is India's first highway to be lit by solar power besides provisions of rain water harvesting. The alignment of the expressway starts near Kundli and passes through Sonepat, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Noida, Faridabad and Palwal. Womens World Badminton Championship: Japan's women clinch Uber Cup Japan's women clinched the Uber Cup, The Womens World Badminton Championship today, defeating Thailand 3-0 in Bangkok, ending a 37-year wait to regain the title. With a team stacked with top ranked players in both the singles and doubles, Japan entered the finals for the first time after stunning China in the semis. It ends an Uber Cup drought for Japan that stretches back to 1981. Earlier Japan lifted this coveted cup in 1966, 1969, 1972 and 1978. China won the title 14 times. The Uber Cup is second in prestige only to the Olympics as a national team event. World singles number two Akane Yamaguchi got Japan off to a flyer, with a 21-15, 21-19 win over Ratchanok Intanon. Doubles pair Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota stormed to the second point of the match winning their tie 21-18, 21-12.
