Sindhu jumps to World No 2 in BWF women's singles rankings

Indian shuttler PV Sindhu jumped two places to World No 2 in the latest Badminton World Federation women's singles rankings. Sindhu's climb came on the back of her title triumph at the Korea Open Super Series on Sunday. This is the second time in her career that Olympics silver medallist has occupied the second spot. She last reached her best ranking following her win at the India Open Super Series back in April, this year. London Olympics bronze winner Saina Nehwal was static at the 12th spot.

New Campus of Indian Aviation Academy Inaugurated Today

The Union Minister of Civil Aviation Shri P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju today inaugurated the new state of the art campus of Indian Aviation Academy (IAA) in New Delhi. With the inauguration of this new world class campus, the IAA academy aims to enhance and augment its training and hostel capabilities to more than double. Speaking on the occasion Shri Raju said that with its enhanced strength the IAA academy would go a long way in meeting the growing demand for skilled manpower in the aviation sector. The Indian Aviation Academy was constituted under the aegis of NIAMAR (National Institute of Aviation Management and research Society) on 22nd July, 2010 as a joint training academy of Airports Authority of India, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security and Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

Global food fair in New Delhi

Govt to introduce 'Food Street' at global food fair in New Delhi Government has said, it will introduce a curated food experience zone 'Food Street' at the global food fair in November in New Delhi. Talking to reporters, Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal said that the aim of this food event is to attract more investment in the food processing sector. The experiential platform will bring together culinary practices, flavours, fragrances from cuisines across the world. Chef Sanjeev Kapoor will be the brand ambassador of the event at the global food fair. The Minister said the global food event, which is being held in India for the first time, will provide a platform to investors to taste the food and then take a call on investing in India under the 'Make in India' programme. The government had last year allowed 100 per cent FDI for marketing, including through e-commerce, of food products manufactured and produced in India.

India growing pretty robustly: World Bank President

World Bank President Jim Kim has said India has been growing pretty robustly. Speaking at the Bloomberg Global Business Forum meeting in New York , Kim said Japan, Europe and the US along with India were growing and there was a levelling-out in developing countries. He called for more cooperation among the multilateral system, private sector and the governments to take advantage of the current win-win situation.

International Day of Peace

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. The theme for 2017 is “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.” The theme honours the spirit of TOGETHER, a global initiative that promotes respect, safety and dignity for everyone forced to flee their homes and those leaving in search of a better life. TOGETHER unites the organizations of the United Nations System, the 193 Member States of the United Nations, the private sector, civil society, academic institutions and individual citizens in a global partnership in support of diversity, non-discrimination and acceptance of refugees and migrants. It was initiated during the United Nations Summit for Refugees and Migrants on 19 September 2016.

Operation Sadbhavana

J&K Youth participating in Operation Sadbhavana call on President A group of youth from the Gurez Valley of Jammu and Kashmir, who are participating in Operation Sadbhavana called on President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday. On the occasion, the President said, these young people are the future of Jammu and Kashmir and it is their responsibility to play a role in the development of the state. He asked the youth to learn from the discipline of the Indian Army. He also congratulated the Army on the Sadbhavana initiative and wished the programme all success. Operation Sadbhavana : According to an official release, the Sadbhavana tour was organised by the 109 Infantry Brigade of the Indian Army with an aim to develop trust and reignite the minds of youth towards national integration. As part of this tour, these youth are visiting Srinagar, Delhi, Lansdowne, Rishikesh and Dehradun.

Environment Ministry to conduct Quiz - 'Prakriti Khoj'

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change will hold a quiz on environment - ‘Prakriti Khoj’ throughout the country. The quiz is planned in five rounds and the qualifying round will begin on 25th of this month by paying tribute to Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya on his birth anniversary. The qualifying round will continue till 29th of this month. The second round will be held from 30th October to 3rd of November, the third round from 20th to 24 of November while the fourth round will be held from 4th to 6th of December and fifth round will be held from 18th to 20th of December. The quiz will be conducted online though multiple-choice questions.

PV Sindhu wins Korea Open title 2017

India's P V Sindhu has lifted the women's singles title at the Korea Open Super Series badminton tournament. In a thrilling summit clash at Seoul today, the Rio Olympics Silver medallist defeated Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in three sets 22-20, 11-21, 20-18. Playing back-to-back finals against Okuhara, Sindhu thus exacted sweet revenge of her World Championship heart-break in Glasgow last month in an epic battle. Today's energy-sapping contest lasted an hour and 23 minutes. In the process, Sindhu became the first Indian to win the Korea Super Series crown. It is also her third super series title of her career. World no. 4 Sindhu had clinched the 2016 China Super Series Premier and India Super Series and Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold this season.
