Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday launched a new pension scheme for the senior citizens, Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana, PMVVY in New Delhi. The scheme can be purchased offline as well as online through LIC. The scheme ensures annual return of 8.3 per cent per annum payable monthly for 10 years. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, banks have to lend at affordable rates while Senior citizens want secure and reasonable on their investment. Benefits : Pension Payment : On survival of the Pensioner during the policy term of 10 years, pension in arrears (at the end of each period as per mode chosen) shall be payable. Death Benefit: On death of the Pensioner during the policy term of 10 years, the Purchase Price shall be refunded to beneficiary. Maturity Benefit: On survival of the pensioner to the end of the policy term of 10 years, Purchase price along with final pension installment shall be payable.

Ram Nath Kovind has been elected as the new President of India as he secured victory over opposition candidate Meira Kumar to become the 14th President of the country.  Announcing the results, Lok Sabha Secretary General and returning officer Anoop Mishra told media in New Delhi that Mr Kovind got 2930 votes valued 7,02,044 and Meira Kumar got 1844 votes valued 3,67,314. Addressing media after his victory at his residence in Delhi, President elect Ramnath Kovind said his elevation to the highest office is a message for the people who work with honesty. He said he will represent the working class and poor sections of the society in the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

National Masters snooker tournament. I H Manudev has won the first National Masters snooker tournament title in Chennai. Alok Kumar, a former national men's champion, had been in fine form coming into the summit clash, but found Karnataka's Manudev a tough proposition. Manudev, capitalised on the chances he got and kept scoring heavily and won the game by four impressive frames. He dominated the first two frames and seized control. In the third frame, Manudev stole Kumar's frame with an extraordinary clearance with one red on the table to lead by 3-0 which made all the difference in the match.

Wimbledon 2017 Roger Federer won a record eighth Wimbledon title and became the tournament's oldest champion today with a straight-sets victory over Marin Cilic. Federer claimed his 19th Grand Slam title beating Cilic 6-3, 6-1, 6-4. The 36-year old Federer is also Wimbledon's oldest men's winner of the modern era, succeeding Arthur Ashe, who was almost 32 when he won in 1976.
