Australia beat England to lift Sultan Azlan Shah cup in Malaysia World champions Australia have lifted the coveted Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey title. In the final at Ipoh, Malaysia on Saturday, they beat defending champions England by a narrow 2-1 margin. Australia have now won the prestigious tournament for the 10th time. Earlier, in the classification match for the 3rd place, Argentina finished third after beating Malaysia 3-2. The hosts ended at the 4th spot. Meanwhile, India finished a disappointed fifth in the six-nation tournament. In the classification match for the fifth and sixth places today, India defeated Ireland 4-1. India had bowed out of the medal race, when they suffered a 2-3 loss against the same opponents in the last round robin match on Friday.

India, Bangladesh, Russia sign pact for Rooppur atomic plant

Indian companies can now participate in construction and installation works in the "non-critical" category for the Rooppur nuclear power plant in Bangladesh, Russian atomic energy agency Rosatom said. The Rooppur project is the first initiative under an Indo-Russian deal to undertake atomic energy projects in three countries. This will also be the first time Indian companies will be able to participate in a nuclear power project abroad. According to Rosatom, India, Bangladesh and Russia signed an agreement to this effect yesterday. The Memorandum of Understanding, signed in Moscow, sets a framework for interaction of Russian contractor, and Indian and Bangladeshi experts in the implementation of works related to the project.   Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is an underconstruction 2.4 GWe nuclear power plant in Bangladesh.

Aruna Budda Reddy becomes 1st Indian to win individual medal at Gymnastics World Cup

Aruna Budda Reddy has created history by becoming the first Indian to win an individual medal at the Gymnastics World Cup. She clinched a Bronze in the Women's Vault event in Melbourne yesterday. Aruna, who hails from Hyderabad, scored 13.649 average points to finish third and claim the bronze medal at the Hisense Arena. Tjasa Kysslef of Slovania took home the Gold, while Emily Whitehead of Australia won the Silver.

India successfully test-fires 'Dhanush' missile

India today successfully test-fired the nuclear-capable surface-to-surface Dhanush ballistic missile with a strike range of 350 km from a naval ship off Odisha coast at around 1052 hrs. This naval variant of the indigenously-developed Prithvi-II missile was test-fired from the ship positioned near Paradip in the Bay of Bengal. 'Dhanush' missile has a length of 8.53 meters and 0.9 metre wide is capable of carrying a payload of 500 kg and hitting both land and sea-based targets.

Canadian Prime Minister on his week long visit to India

The most popular Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on his one week visit to India with family and has met the Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi, where they conducted extensive talks for nearly two hours, exploring ways to boost ties in several key areas, including trade and energy.
