Lord Canning became the Viceroy as per the proclamation of the Queen Victoria after the Sepoy Mutiny.

  • Behadur Shah was sent to Rangoon (Burma) in 1858
  • Three Universities were formed - Culcutta, Bombay and Madras
  • Doctrine of Lapse started by LordDelhousie in 1848 was
  •  withdrawn in 1859 by Lord Canning
  • Introduced Tax
  • Indian Penal Code (framed by Lord Metcalfe, 1860) Criminal Procedure Code (1861) framed
  • Indigo Revolt in Bengal. White Mutiny in English East India Co.
  • Started Tea and Coffee Plantation 
  • 1861- Indian High Court Act was Passed
  • Archeological Survey of India was established in 1861
  • India's First Budget was presented by James Wilson in 1860
  •  Indian Civil Service Act was passed in 1861
  • Bengal Tenancy Act was passed
