India and Iran have reiterated their commitment to complete and operationalise the Chabahar Port at the earliest. The port would contribute to bilateral and regional trade and economic development and also provide alternate access to land locked Afghanistan to regional and global markets.
Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari, who is on a two day visit to Tehran, interacted with President Hassan Rouhani yesterday, and called on the First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri. He also held detailed exchange of views with Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran, Abbas Akhoundi.
Besides the bilateral pact to develop the Chabahar port — for which India will invest $500 million — a trilateral Agreement on Transport and Transit Corridor has also been signed by India, Afghanistan and Iran.
