The country's first full-time woman Defence Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman has said, her priority will be the preparedness of the Armed forces. Talking to reporters after taking charge of the Ministry today, Mrs Sitharaman said it is important that the armed forces receive all attention in terms of best equipment to discharge their duties.
She said, priority will also be given to indigenous defence production as part of the 'Make in India' initiative. The Minister also said, the long pending issues of the Armed forces will be resolved. Mrs Sitharaman took charge from Mr Arun Jaitley who was holding the additional charge of the Ministry since March this year.
She became the first full-time woman defence minister and the second woman to take charge of the key portfolio. Indira Gandhi, as then Prime Minister, had also held the portfolio in the seventies.
